Educator, Author and Activist

Educator: Jonathan Silin has spent a lifetime working in and outside of classrooms to promote innovative, equitable, and socially relevant schools. He was a member of the Bank Street College of Education faculty for 17 years and editor-in-chief of its highly successful Occasional Paper Series.

Author: Through his books, traditional scholarship, and occasional essays Jonathan invites readers to explore the opportunities afforded by the most difficult moments in our lives and the lives of those we care for. In his new memoir, Early Childhood, Aging and the Life Cycle: Mapping Common Ground, he explores the process of aging and the challenges that link young and old in a common world.

Activist: Jonathan was in the forefront of the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights in the 1970s and the battle against AIDS in the 1980s. He continues to speak out on behalf of the youngest and oldest members of society.
